Erin and Nick | Engagement and our new Nikon!

We were thrilled to debut our new camera with this adorable couple, Erin and Nick.  A quick early-morning visit to Highbanks was all it took to get some amazing photos to showcase their love and fabulous chemistry.

Unfortunately this was our only glimpse of the sun during our entire session, so as soon as we arrived we hopped out of our cars and made the most if it before the clouds rolled in.

Stephanie + Justin | Fawcett Center

It’s that time of year again!  Buds are on the trees and love is in the air.

When she entered the room her arm linked with her father’s, Justins quiet conversation with their officiant came to an abrupt end.  Their eyes met and he only broke his stare long enough to recompose his face.  Stephanie was radiant in her lace-adorned sheath gown, and the window-lined room added a soft glow to her veil.

Despite March’s reputation for unpredictable weather, we were lucky to have a beautiful sunny, slightly warm day.  With a bright sunny day and a lot of our photos taking place  when the sun was high in the sky we had to make the best of some pretty tricky lighting conditions.  Although harsh light from direct sunlight presents a lot of challenges for us, we love the ‘pop’ from a nice rim light and the ability to create fabulous highlights and shadows on a sunny day.

Stephanie and Justin are some of the biggest Buckeye fans I’ve ever met, so of course we had to visit OSU’s campus for some fabulous sunset photos.  You can also check out some of their engagement photos we took in and around The Shoe on our Facebook page!

One speedlight and 15 minutes

…and a beautiful beach.  We had a sprint of a photo shoot with Jean a while back as we raced against our fast-sinking sun.  It didn’t hurt that we had an adorable model (my sister in-law) and a gorgeous beach to work with, but we managed to grab some fabulous shots, and a wide variety thanks to Steve jumping in to help.  For those who have worked with us in the past you know Steve and I have unique views when approaching a shoot, and you’ll probably be able to tell who shot which photos.  Our differing artistic eyes combined with the fact that we had two cameras and only one speedlight gave us a nice mixture of natural light and flash photography.

My other sister in-law graciously volunteered as an impromptu stylist and production manager : )

Behind the scenes with Steve!

sit. stay. smile. 2012

Sit. stay. smile. 2012 has come to an end.  With 38 participating dogs we were able to help raise over $600 for WOOF!  Thanks to everyone who brought their dogs in over the weekend, and don’t forget to place your print order by March 24th and 20% of your order total will also go to the dog park!

I have to start out this post with the most miraculous photo we achieved this weekend.  Liz and David, one of our wedding couples for this year, brought in their three gigantic dogs (the “puppy” in the middle will soon be 160 pounds!) with their parent’s two energetic retrievers for a family photo.  Smile!

I can feel a caption contest for this photo coming on…

We went through two whole boxes of Milk Bones this weekend, but the homemade treats one of our clients brought in made an even better motivator for her little guys.Zina was nothing but a little white blur in most of her photos, but we were able to distract her with some squeakers for just long enough for a couple of photos…It’s hard work being a model…
In my opinion the outtakes are just as fantastic as the portraits we’re usually aiming for.

Amy and Matt | OSU Urban Arts Space

Our first wedding of the 2012 season was this past Saturday with Matt and Amy on a chilly February evening. We started out at the Westin while Amy and Matt got ready and stayed for a quick round of photos, and continued onto the OSU Urban Arts Space for the ceremony, one of the most…quirky venues we’ve ever photographed. Evening weddings in the winter are always a challenge because of the obvious absence of the sun, but with every challenge comes an opportunity. Steve and I made sure we were well stocked with lights, modifiers and stands before we headed out that afternoon and we were able to get some pretty cool long exposures, motion blurs and crisp night shots. And now in no particular order, a sampling of our favorites…
